JEAN PAUL GAULTIER: FROM THE SIDEWALK TO THE CATWALK
Sean Paul and Jean Paul are two big cultural influences in my life. A retrospective of the latter is opening at London’s Barbican this Wednesday. So naturally I’m feeling very excited. Known for Madonna’s conical bra, for making Diet Coke fashionable and of course, for his avant-garde fashion creations, From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk is the first exhibition devoted to the celebrated French couturier. A whopping 165 designs will be on display, including said conical bra and stage costumes designed for Kylie Minogue. Collaborations with photographers including Andy Warhol, Cindy Sherman, Herb Ritts and David LaChapelle will also be there for your cultural consumption. So if, like Andre Leon Talley, your “eyes are starving for beauty honey” then don’t worry because dinner is on the way and let me tell you, it’s going to be a feast. Scroll down and whet your appetite with these sumptuous previews from the upcoming exhibition. Bon appetite!
